More than a year ago, (one of) the most prestigious brand of timepieces OMEGA released a Red Gold in Rubber Strap Olympic Watch to commemorate the Beijing Summer Olympics 2008. And recently the Swiss watchmaker - based in Biel/Bienne Switzerland, launches another limited edition of exceptional timepieces to celebrate the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, February 12th to 28th, 2010.
Apparently, OMEGA has a long tradition in supporting the Olympic Games: Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Up to now, the brand has been the OFFICIAL OLYMPIC TIMEKEEPER for the 24th time. Omega is responsible for timing every Olympic event, data handling, displaying the result at the venue and distributing it to the world’s media. Their first assignment was at Los Angeles Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the X Olympiad in 1932; while Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany in 1936 was the Omega’s first timekeeping assignment for the Olympic Winter Games.
“Vancouver 2010” will include Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with some events held in the resort town of Whistler nearby. The 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS, officially known as the XXI Olympic Winter Games or the 21ST WINTER OLYMPICS, will be held on February 12 – 28, 2010 involving 5,500 athletes and officials from more than 80 countries. It will be the largest Olympic Winter Games ever. As for the 2010 WINTER PARALYMPICS, officially known as the X Paralympic Winter Games, it will be a ten days event commencing on 12th of March 2010. The Games will invite 1,350 athletes and officials from more than 40 countries. Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being organized by the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC).

To mark its 24th partnership with International Olympic Committee (IOC), OMEGA has released the SEAMASTER DIVER 300 M “VANCOUVER 2010” LIMITED EDITION WATCH presented in two variants of stainless steel case: measuring 41 mm and 36.25 mm in diameter. Each variant is equipped with professional diving features: a unidirectional rotating bezel, a helium-escape valve and 300-meter-depth water resistance. The movement is animated by the OMEGA’s signature: Co-Axial caliber 2500. The hands and indexes are coated with white Super-LumiNova coating that provides a soft blue reflection in the dark.

The watches’ connection to the Olympic Games – to be more specific: the Winter Olympics, in Vancouver are, as follows:
- Each version of the watch is presented in 2010 numbered pieces, linking up to the year of the Winter Games in Vancouver.
- White lacquered dials and red-anodized aluminum bezel rings call to mind the Canadian flag with its proud red maple leaf against a stark white background. Likewise, the white dials evoke are evocative of snow and ice which will undoubtedly play such an important role in the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games 2010.
- The Olympic Symbols - five interlocking rings, colored blue, yellow, black, green, and red on a white field, is presented on the counterweight of the red-tipped, rhodium-plated chronograph seconds hand.
- The watch caseback is embossed with the Limited Edition number (0000/2010) and the 2010 Winter Olympics logo which is named ILANAAQ the Inunnguaq. The symbol is created by artist Elena Rivera MacGregor representing an inuksuk (alternatively inukshuk in English or inukhuk in Inuinnaqtun) - the figures made of piled stones which the Canadian First Nations people created to served as greetings anyone moving through their territories. The name “Ilanaaq” is the Inuktitut word for “friend”.
