I witness more men’s accessories makers are collaborating with street artist to deliver more imaginative products.
This time, SWATCH teams up with a young French street painter GREMS to present the SWATCH STREET CLUB WATCH; The Club watch for 2009 represent the spirit of GREMS who has unleashed the art from the exclusive gallery to the streets.
Besides an artist, GREMS is also a rapper, hip hop artist, and designer. He’s certainly a man of many colors and voices. While his line of works remind me of “the man with many talents” MacGyver, Grem’s artworks, to me, are somewhat similar to Dutch artist PARRA’s. They both features artistic signature of colorful clusters of hand-drawn signs and lettering, bold graphics and graffiti. Akin to Parra’s weird beak-faced character, Grems also exhibits cartoon figures in style and grace.
Popular and intentionally provocative, street art undermines expectations, using bold and colorful graphics coupled with humor, irony and visual wit to deliver the message that art is irrepressible, the human spirit alive and well.
