Manchester United has Hublot …but, how about Manchester City?
Well, the rivalry continues as the defending Premier League Champion has just announced that they also have the team’s Official Timing Partner now. It’s Richard Mille, the brand priorly spotted on the wrist of Roberto Mancini when embracing Brian Kidd (Assistant Manager) after Sergio Aguero scored the winning goal in the last minute of injury time, which helped City win the championship. This is the first deal of its kind for The Citizen following their first league title winning in 44 years. As for the French watch-making company Richard Mille, this is their first kick-off on world of football following their previous involvements on tennis (Rafael Nadal), Golf (Bubba Watson), Polo (Pablo Mac Donough) and Formula Race (Felipe Massa, Jules Bianchi, Romain Dumas, Adrien Tambay, Martin and Alex Brundle).
The Manchester City manager, ROBERTO MANCINI wears the Richard Mille RM 010 Automatic Watch. It features skeletonized aluminum lithium movement structure as the successor of the RM009 Felipe Massa timepiece; while the shape of its movement – designed by Vaucher, a high quality movement manufacturing specialist – is an update from the previous RM005: the engine was modified into a Richard Mille Caliber RM010 (28,800vph, 31 jewels). It has the abilities of 55-hour-power reserve and water resistant to 50 meters (165 feet).
The RICHARD MILLE ROBERTO MANCINI WATCH has the same attention to detail in their manufacture as its siblings. It is characterized by micro-blasted grade-5-titanium case (48 mm x 39.30 mm x 13.84 mm) and bezel, skeleton dial covered by anti-glare sapphire crystal, skeletonized automatic winding movement, and transparent sapphire crystal exhibition back – glareproof both sides. The functions include hours, minutes, seconds, and date. The rugged yet attractive body is combined with black leather strap with deployant clasp.
With the recent partnership between RICHARD MILLE and MANCHESTER CITY, the manager Roberto Mancini joins the list of football managers sporting premium wristwatches that includes Alex Ferguson + Hublot, Roy Hodgson + Hublot, Andre Villas Boas + Franck Muller, Jose Mourinho + deLaCour, Ottmar Hitzfeld + IWC Schaffhausen, Diego Maradona + Hublot.
On the announcement of the partnership, John Macbeath, Interim CEO of Manchester City, said:
“We are extremely proud to form this relationship with Richard Mille, who shares our will to innovate and to push the boundaries in achieving our collective aims. This new partnership provides many exciting opportunities for collaboration through selected VIP events and a bespoke match-day box experience.”
Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille Europe-Middle East-Africa commented:
“We are proud to announce our partnership with Manchester City whilst the Premier League Champions are celebrating such a significant moment in the history of the club. Manchester City’s commitment to excellence and innovation perfectly matches Richard Mille’s desire to create unique timepieces with a strong and inspiring identity. We look forward to long a successful partnership with Manchester City Football Club.”
Richard Mille has also donated a unique timepiece to be auctioned on behalf of the club’s charity association ‘City in the Community’. The proceeds will go towards improving the lives of local children, helping them to achieve their goals and exceed their potential through sport and education.
