Pac Man is the best-selling coin-operated game in history. Namco, the Japanese game developer of Pac-Man claimed that the original arcade title has been played more than ten billion times in its 20 year history and generates revenues $100 million since its debut in May 22nd, 1980.
Tohru Iwatani, Namco designer was inspired by a pizza with a slice missing to create the Pac-Man. It took 8 people for 15 months to complete the original Pac-Man arcade title. Dozens of hacked version of Pac-Man exist then. The character even had its animated cartoon on ABC in 1982. The show ran for two years.
