JASON MRAZ is renowned for his FEDORA HAT. It’s a soft felt hat that is creased lengthwise down the crown and pinched in the front on both sides. Some wear the fedora in a way that it pushed back on the head, with the front of the brim bent down over the eyes.

Before Mraz, some movie characters have been associated to Fedora Hat, such as The Blues Brother, Indiana Jones and Freddy Krueger. Some celebrities were also known for wearing a fedora, including Johnny Depp and Hugh Jackman. (Trivia question: Is Will.i.am, the front man of Black Eyed Peas sporting fedora hat on his 2007 album cover “Songs about Girls”?)

FEDORA was originally a female fashion ever since Sarah Bernhard performed her 1882 play by Victorien Sardou. She played Princess Fedora, the heroine of the play, and she wore a hat similar to a fedora. That’s where word FEDORA came from.

And the history of fashion marked the days when Fedora transformed into a male fashion in the early part of the 20th century. Fedora hat could protect the wearer’s head from the wind and weather; when not in use, it could be rolled up. It was also the ‘signature’ of the gangsters, private detectives, or other ‘tough guy’s role in Hollywood movies of the 1940s.

During the late 50’s and early 60’s, Fedora Hat lost its popularity. In fact, it became a dead fashion since 1970’s as only worn by the old traditional men. Thanks to contemporary musicians Jason Mraz who revives the FEDORA HAT; bring it back in fashion.

Fans must recognize the COCONUT FEDORA HAT JASON MRAZ wore on his video “I’m Yours”. It’s already been his signature hat; a pinch-front coconut braid with snap brim and striped ribbon trim.
