Unlike Bono and Elton John, METALLICA frontman JAMES HETFIELD doesn’t always wear sunglasses when appears on public. But it turns out, the rock star icon living in Marin County, north of San Francisco has designed an excellent sunglasses in collaboration with San Francisco-based company Sutro Vision. Available in gloss black and tortoise, these shades is sold at Metallica online store for $219.99.
The SUTRO HETFIELD SUNGLASSES is inspired by James Hetfield’s favorite Lincoln Zephyr v12. The frame is as smooth and as fast as his favorite car, equipped by the Sutro signature surgical-grade stainless steel hinges. The patented hinge offers quality and durability as it turns the weakest point in the frame into the strongest, making it 10x stronger than a traditional hinge. It’s the only hinge with the distinctive three ratcheting clicks, named 3ClickTM. The frame measures 56 [ ] 18 -145.

The lens include Zeiss optics by German manufacturer, Carl Zeiss AG. The high quality lenses guarantee an extremely high level of protection to the eyes in all conditions as well as produce very bright images. They block 100% of both UVA and UVB sun rays while also has toughest hard coating for superior scratch resistance. The polycarbonate Zeiss lens allow for quality, clarity and durability.

Besides 3Click Hinge, the product designer Jeff Sand – whose work appears in the permanent collection at SF MOMA – also is developing the Sutro Ratchet Hinge, a stainless steel ratcheting hinge that is integrated into the frame for incredible strength and durability.
