Do Clothes really matters? And the answer is, yes. Will Rogers said, “You never get a second chance to make first impression.” That’s true. People judge you in the first 30 seconds. And what happen next? If you dress improper and you look peculiar, the impression lasts for at least next 5 years. I think you now know how important your first impression is.
It is imperative to wear good and proper dress since 90% of our body is covered by clothes. Good impression starts from this. When you pick right clothes you have to consider the context. For instance, you may wear ripped jeans in a party but unfortunately not in every clubs. Some won’t let you in when you wear it. The security guard didn’t even know your jeans worth hundreds dollars. That’s why you need to care about the context before you choose a proper dress.
You can wear casual dress in many occasions and places. Casual means relaxed, showing minimum attraction, permissive, and informal.
The history of casual dress began in 1930 when sporty fashion replaced the business fashion. It got boomed in 1960 when people wear leisure suit and turtle neck instead of shirt and tie.
However, never wear casual dress when you have job interview. Job interview is when you have to make good impression as far as you can go. I bet you want people think you mean business about the job and the company. You need to wear formal dress even if the company doesn’t require their employee to wear it. Wondering why? It’s because you need to convince the interviewer that you are qualified for the position.
Candidate who wears improper dress is considered to be not interested in the job. At least, that’s what crossed in the interviewer’s mind. You better wear the common clean and neat formal dress. Get stylish but not too much and don’t show your fashion statement. Respect the situation. The interviewer expects you to look as good as they wish you to look. Keep it in mind that it takes only 30 seconds to make good impression.
When you dress you need to consider two things: is it a business occasion? Or it is a social occasion (party, family gathering, hang out with friends, or casual dinner in restaurant)? The occasions determine the dress you have to wear. You are what you wear. In business occasion, you wear tuxedo suit or long sleeve shirt with long pant.
In social occasion, you have lots of options. If you want to look casual, you may wear a polo shirt and sweater or sport jacket when you come to a party or dinner. You will look relax and neat. If you come to café, mal or buddy’s apartment, you could wear t-shirt and jeans to give you sporty look.
You could mix and match your dress. Choose proper dress for the occasion. Don’t be afraid to try. Just be yourself. Pick your own style. Have fun!
