Some reports that this method began when Four-in-Hand Club in London wearing a fashionable neckerchiefs. The knot is slightly asymmetric and appropriate for any occasions.
This knot constructs a neat triangular knot. The half-windsor knot is more symmetric (compare to four-in-hand-knot) and slightly broader knot. This method works well with light and medium weight fabrics.
The Windsor knot is more symmetric and bulkier compared to other methods. It is appropriate in business and political occasions. This method works well for wide collar shirt and a thin material of tie.
This method was named after Duke of Windsor (Edward VIII) who preferred a wide knot and thick fabrics.
Also known as the Shelby knot and the Pratt-Shelby knot, this method produces a symmetrical knot for medium thickness tie. It suits to shorter ties as it uses less length than other method.
Jerry Pratt, an employee of US Chamber of Commerce found this method before unexpectedly became popular when Don Shelby, a TV personality wore it on air. By mistake, The New York Fashion Press attached this knot to Shelby.

- Notice the collar. Put it on properly as well as the neck button.
- Good knot sizes proportional to your collar.
