Wallet made from wood, why not? But, would it be weighing too heavy on my pocket?

Well, it would, unless it includes a very light material; or it’s only a solid wood attached to the exterior of a leather wallet, like Maison Martin Margiela just did to one of its Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. The lacquered finished WOODEN WOOD ($425) is available in dark and light wood. The interior has three credit card slots, three compartments and an elastic to secure the cash.

Founded by Belgian fashion designer, Martin Margiela (born April 9, 1957), the label MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA is best known for its ground-breaking and deconstruction concept design. The founder himself is also quite eccentric. He has never had his picture taken even after his fashion show as he remained backstage. In 2002, Margiela’s brand was acquired by the Diesel brand in 2002.

Today I found the news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home (10th February 2010) – as announced on the official website. And this astonishing wallet was one of Lee McQueen’s last creations.

The strap tightly closes the wallet and hides a laser etched logo panel. The design protects cards and allows for cash to be folded once and slipped behind. The ox-blood finish was hand mixed and dyed on sun aged leather. Each item was cut, polished, and then clear coated for a rich antique finish.

MAKR was founded by Jason Gregory who loves blending the tradition of handcraft with the contemporary. Four years ago while trying to make his own stylish camera bag; Jason experimented with laser and leather. He was working in an architectural firm owning an industrial laser to cut material for building models. Jason then developed his skill with laser and leather. He then constantly produced fashionable handcrafted wallet in only small quantities by smaller group of people in his family-owned-company, MAKR.

Porsche Design’s New Collection comes in White Color Theme

Porsche Design presents all their latest collection in white including leather goods (bags, trolley/luggage, briefcase, credit card case, and coin purse), sunglasses, luxury shake pen, jewelry, lighter and cell phone. Wow, I think that’s incredible. White reflects all the color as what Isaac Newton said (simply recall the kaleidoscope of colors). And I interpret that the Porsche Design stuffs brings you all the colors of luxury and happiness.

The official explanation came from Roland Heiler, Managing Director of Porsche Design Studio said,

“The typical color of Porsche Design is black. The color white, on the other hand, stands for purity and also has the property that it highlights the shape of the product. These characteristics also make white an excellent medium for our minimalist design language.”

The new white collection conveys a technical look combination of white with metals like aluminum, titanium and stainless steel.

The white aluminum clad Porsche Design’s mobile phone is the winner of 2008 IF Award (International Forum Award) for product design.

Wikipedia explains about Isaac Newton’s theory of color:

From 1670 to 1672, Newton lectured on optics. During this period he investigated the refraction of light, demonstrating that a prism could decompose white light into a spectrum of colors, and that a lens and a second prism could recompose the multicolored spectrum into white light.

He also showed that the colored light does not change its properties by separating out a colored beam and shining it on various objects. Newton noted that regardless of whether it was reflected or scattered or transmitted, it stayed the same color. Thus, he observed that color is the result of objects interacting with already-colored light rather than objects generating the color themselves. This is known as Newton’s theory of color.
