A Rolling Stones Watch? No,…It’s a Ronnie Wood Watch!

Vincent Berard Luvorene I Watches

You see those two watches above? You like them? Either the white gold version or the black series, both are very much impressive. I bet you agree those are one of the coolest wrist watch ever developed. Even Ronnie Wood likes the Vincent Bérard LUVORENE I Watch.  The Rolling Stones’ guitarist as well as and accomplished painter just ordered the special edition of the watch, all colored in red - his favorite color.

The original Vincent Bérard LUVORENE I Watches, other than the special edition – Ronnie Wood’s series, are available in eight different variants, depending on the color of the case, dial and hand-stitched crocodile leather strap. Anyhow, all comes in a round domed case with famous bulge from the “Quatre Saisons” model shifted to 3 o’clock. VINCENT BÉRARD, the founder explains that the special camel’s-hump-shape comes from the particular shape of a pillar in the Cathedral in Strasbourg. Such characteristic construction brings consequences to the placement of winding crown ; it is at 9 o’clock instead of 3 o clock.

The gold case measures 42 mm in diameter and 13 mm thick. Its dial side is open-worked to expose the oscillations of a balance with screws and a Breguet overcoil balance-spring, from which the escapement and the lever-wheel have ‘mysteriously’ disappeared. This original piece on the caseback, under the engraved cover is very attractive. The sculptural movement includes five spindled- bridges which compose a sort of staircase that spirals up on five level.

VINCENT BÉRARD’S LUVORENE I WATCH is the first model of ‘fuseaux de l’infini’(‘Time of the infinite’) collections. It is equipped with a grand complication movement - caliber VB441, with 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The sophisticated Vincent Bérard timepiece features black dial with indexes, beautiful hand-indicator for moon phases and days of the week. It has 10-day power reserve on the caseback and gold buckle on the strap.

With all those pre-eminences, LUVORENE I WATCH has lured an English rock guitarist Ronald David “RONNIE” WOOD, best known as a member of The ROLLING STONES to order a personalized edition of his in complete red color. Even the case is red: a red gold case. The watchmaker Vincent Bérard and Herbert Gautschi, CEO of Vincent Bérard SA were more than happy to make a private delivery to the living legend’s home in Ireland on October 18th, 2009.

When the two exceptional artists met, what did they talk about? About their second common passion: painting.

Educated at Ealing Art College, Ronnie Wood is considered an accomplished and respectable artist. His paintings, drawings and prints recurrently feature icons of popular culture and have been exhibited all over the world. Several of his paintings, including a work commissioned by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, are displayed at London’s Drury Lane Theatre. Liberty & Co, a long-established department store on Regent Street in Central London, England, has produced a clothing line using fabrics printed with Wood’s art.

When he was a child, Wood’s drawing were featured on the BBC television programme Sketch Club and won one of that programme’s competitions. And in 2004, a television arts magazine show, made by London Weekend Television, the South Bank Show had devoted an entire programme to Wood’s artwork.

As for Vincent Bérard, he has never ceased to paint and sculpt, an artistic activity which is extended into his watchmaking creations.

So it is perfectly natural that Ronnie Wood and Vincent Bérard met through painting, rapidly developing a reciprocal appreciation of their art.

About Vincent Bérard Watch

Born in 1959 near Avignon, France (FYI: Avignon is also the origin city of Christian Audigier, a famous fashion designer), VINCENT BÉRARD has earned a diploma as a watchmaker-restorer from the Vallée de Joux watch school. But his skill and creativity were much more developed at the watchmaker’s bench to make, repair and restore watches for several big names in Swiss watchmaking such as the Musée International d’Horlogerie (International Watch and Clock Museum) in La Chaux-de-Fonds and the most prestigious Manufactures. It’s a phase which he called ‘the restoration school’.

Bérard started his own atelier: VINCENT BÉRARD SA in 1992 at the watchmaking city of La Chaux-de-Fonds. At the end of 2004, the company completed its first archetype: Quatre Saisons Carrosse. In October 2006, Vincent Bérard’s company  was acquired by TIMEX, the group, which produces and distributes under license watches by Guess, Valentino and Versace. This merger has benefited the brands in terms of marketing. Ranked as a high-end luxury brand which is extremely precise, Vincent Bérard’s watches are now sold internationally by 20 carefully selected retailers, from Tokyo to Los Angeles, Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Kiev and St-Moritz.
